100 Feet Tall

We had a big breakthrough moment today. Encouraging our child not to quit something he loves just because it's a little scary. Especially because we could see that he might regret it later.

There was much gnashing of teeth. Declarations of how mean we are. Proclamations of how we just don't understand. And then we finally got to the heart of it. The fear of new. Hesitancy to face the unknown. The knowledge that failure is possible.

And what if all of those things? What then?

So we repeated the truth of love. And then the reassurances that even so, the important things would still stand. There will still be family. There will always be love.

So we went together. We walked in and faced the new challenge. And he loved it. He was sad to leave. And as we stepped outside he declared to me, "You are an awesome mom."

And in that moment I felt 100 feet taller. And I remembered what a joy it is to share this amazing love. Love that some have never known.

Family.
